Hand Painted Chinoiserie Wallpaper by Maja Pitschmann

(2 products)

Each design in this exclusive collection was hand painted by Slovenian artist Maja Pitschmann, founder of PatternArt Studio. Her chinoiserie wallpaper murals capture the depth and movement of traditional brush-and-ink technique — birds perched among peony branches, butterflies drifting past pomegranate trees, and lush botanical gardens rendered in rich watercolor detail. These are not digitally generated patterns. Every stroke was painted by hand, then carefully reproduced on our premium wallpaper substrates.

Choose from self-adhesive peel and stick chinoiserie wallpaper for a renter-friendly installation, or our commercial-grade Traditional Type II for a permanent luxury finish. Every wallcovering roll is made to order in Davie, Florida using non-toxic, eco-friendly inks, and samples are available for every design so you can see the hand painted detail before you commit.

Designed by Maja Pitschmann, PatternArt Studio.

Hand Painted Chinoiserie Wallpaper in Every Color

Maja’s hand painted chinoiserie designs span a full spectrum of colorways, each suited to a different mood and interior style. Her blue chinoiserie wallpaper captures the classic elegance of 18th-century porcelain motifs — birds and blossoms on deep sapphire or soft powder blue grounds — making it a natural fit for formal spaces alongside our broader blue wallpaper collection. For a softer, more romantic feel, pink chinoiserie wallpapers feature peony blooms and hummingbirds in blush and rose tones that pair beautifully with other designs in our pink wallpaper and romantic wallpaper collections.

Beyond the classic blue and white palette, you’ll find vintage chinoiserie compositions in warm ivory and gold, modern chinoiserie interpretations with clean compositions on sage or emerald backgrounds (browse more in our green wallpaper collection), and moody tones that complement our dark floral wallpaper. Each hand painted chinoiserie wallpaper mural in this collection shares the same artistic DNA — real brushwork, visible texture, and the kind of organic imperfection that sets original art apart from digital repeats. Luxury Chinoiserie Wall Murals for Every Room

A hand painted chinoiserie wall mural makes a statement in any room. In the living room, a large-scale scenic wallpaper mural design with birds and botanical branches becomes the kind of backdrop that anchors the entire space — think of it as the wallpaper equivalent of a commissioned painting. In the bedroom, softer colorways in blush or neutral tones set a restful, elegant mood, especially when paired with vintage floral wallpaper accents. For a dramatic dining room or upscale restaurant, Maja's French chinoiserie wallpaper designs deliver the layered depth of traditional hand-painted silk rolls - without the five-figure price tag.

Every design is available as removable peel and stick chinoiserie wallpaper for easy installation, or as our fire-rated commercial wallpaper for hotel and hospitality projects. For an even more tactile finish, consider our chinoiserie grasscloth wallpaper option — the faux grasscloth Type II substrate adds a woven texture that deepens the hand painted look. All substrates are produced with non-toxic inks and made to order in Florida, with free US shipping and samples available for every colorway in the collection.

Meet the Wallpaper Artist: Maja Pitschmann

Maja Pitschmann - PatternArt Studio is a Slovenian Chinoiserie artist and surface designer based in southern Austria, originally from the western Slovenian border with Italy — a region known for its layered history, architecture, and artistic heritage. Growing up surrounded by European cultural influences, she developed an early fascination with art and architecture.

She has a background as a marketing manager for an international retail chain, where she developed a deep understanding of visual storytelling, brand identity, and refined her eye for composition, aesthetics, and the way design shapes atmosphere — elements that now influence her artistic work.

Her passions for history, antiques, antique houses, classical wallpaper and textile design, and her admiration for Italian, English, and French interior traditions and decorative arts naturally evolved into her dedication to creating hand painted wallpapers and murals.

Her work is rooted in traditional Chinoiserie painting techniques and created entirely by hand using gouache, a medium that allows for richness, depth, and a soft, elegant finish. Visible brushstrokes and meticulous detailing give each piece its own character, while her gentle palette and refined compositions bring a sense of calm, romance, and elegance to interiors. Every wallpaper begins with a personal story or a connection to a place — each design is created to carry meaning and narrative into the spaces it inhabits.

Her artistic language is also shaped by the visual heritage of Italian art and fresco traditions, whose sense of scale, atmosphere, and storytelling subtly inform the way she composes her painted scenes and designs.

Her collections reflect a thoughtful blend of craftsmanship, storytelling, and timeless decorative arts, expressed through a distinctly soft and elegant Chinoiserie style.

Hand Painted Chinoiserie Wallpaper FAQ

What is a chinoiserie wallpaper?

Chinoiserie wallpaper draws on centuries-old European interpretations of Chinese and East Asian art, featuring motifs like exotic birds, flowering branches, butterflies, and garden scenes. At EazzyWalls, our chinoiserie wallpaper collection includes both scenic wall murals and repeating patterns, and this designer collection by Maja Pitschmann takes the tradition a step further — every design was hand painted with real brush and watercolor before being reproduced on our peel and stick or Type II substrates.

Is chinoiserie wallpaper still popular?

Chinoiserie wallpaper is more popular than ever, driven by the grandmillennial design trend and a renewed interest in artisan craftsmanship. Interior designers consistently rank it among the top choices for statement walls in living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Maja Pitschmann’s hand painted designs bring a fresh, contemporary interpretation that works in both vintage and modern interiors.

What patterns go with chinoiserie wallpaper?

Chinoiserie wallpaper pairs well with stripes, solid textures, and subtle botanical wallpaper patterns in adjacent spaces. For a cohesive look, match the dominant color in your chinoiserie mural to accent pieces — blue chinoiserie works with toile wallpaper in a similar palette, while pink chinoiserie complements floral wallpaper and soft cottagecore patterns. Avoid combining two highly detailed patterns in the same sightline.

Is chinoiserie wallpaper always blue and white?

Not at all. While the classic blue and white palette inspired by Chinese porcelain remains the most recognizable style, chinoiserie wallpaper comes in a wide range of colorways. This collection by Maja Pitschmann includes designs in pink, green, gold, warm ivory, and rich earth tones. Browse our blue wallpaper, pink wallpaper, and green wallpaper collections to see how different chinoiserie colorways fit into broader color palettes.
